Azalina posted on Monday: "I'm running (for) Wanita Umno chief because I believe it is time for a new generation of women leaders to be in Wanita."
The former Puteri Umno chief, when contacted, said as soon as the "Azalina Othman Said for Wanita Umno" page was set up last Friday, many young professionals took part in discussions on the election.
She said her team had taken the campaign into cyberspace to gauge the response of the younger generation.
"Frankly, I thought Umno was no longer popular among the young but through the setting up of the page, I found out otherwise.
"I am told that there is an average of 300 'likes' for my page daily.
"I don't think most of them are Umno members but they are interested in what is taking place in Umno," said Azalina, who is also Pengerang member of parliament.
The page contains videos and pictures of her at Parliament, answering questions in news conferences and hosting Wanita Umno members at a breaking of fast event.
Azalina announced last month that she was challenging Wanita Umno chief Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Former Johor Wanita Umno chief Datuk Halimah Sadique, who is also Tenggara MP, may join the race.
Wanita Umno's Facebook page, coincidentally, posted a video of Shahrizat welcoming challengers to her post.
The video was recorded during the Kuala Besut by-election campaign.
"It is okay if Azalina and the others, including proxy candidates, want to have a go in the contest.
"This will make the election more interesting," she said in the video. -NST
